This is pure and simple Communism. If you have any doubt, here is an excerpt from the Communist Manifesto. Say goodbye to your freedom. We have entered communist territory now.

The distinguishing feature of Communism is not the abolition of property generally, but the abolition of bourgeois property. But modern bourgeois private property is the final and most complete expression of the system of producing and appropriating products, that is based on class antagonisms, on the exploitation of the many by the few.

In this sense, the theory of the Communists may be summed up in the single sentence: Abolition of private property.

In case you wonder about the word "bourgeois" here is the definition:

1: of, relating to, or characteristic of the social middle class
2: marked by a concern for material interests and respectability and a tendency toward mediocrity
3: dominated by commercial and industrial interests : capitalistic

Martin's is famous with the surfers... and over this access issue. it's always been private. If the surfers don't like it, why not get a coalition together and BUY the beach from Khosla...

I can see his point - he owns that hunk of property, and if someone gets hurt or killed on it, then it's not the state or this group o' surfers that will bear the brunt and the lawsuits...

Of course... why do the right thing when you can sue someone and get it for free? It's the moocher creed - Eyes on the Prize...

There's more than just surfers involved in this - a number of ranches on the central coast prohibit access to the beach, as it's part of their cattle land. There are also places like Esalen which close off part of the beach (and are quite popular with the new age crowd)...
