Is this article saying our society is so permissive that the only way for young people to rebel is ot adopt a radical oppressive ideology? Is it saying if we were a little more oppressive, we'd paradoxically be fighting oppression b/c young people would rebel by embracing liberty? So we reduce liberty in order to promote it?

I hope it's just saying even in a world with liberty, some people decide to be criminals.
