I started my own business

Well, I pulled the trigger, I started my own business. I am a surveyor, and do the surveys you would do if you where buying/selling a house.

I have done my first job, $535.00 but it was like 2 days of work, tons of driving and then I have to turn over like 300 to someone else for doing the drafting as a rush project. I am okay with that because he saved my butt, so good for him and me.

There are clearly some frustrations and problems I have to work out, but I have that first step (almost?) behind me. I am looking forward more then looking back.

My biggest concern is my ability to make my a living at doing this. Time will tell. Money is tight, stress is high.

    Retired now, but remember how that feels -- go, man go. Last time I had to have a property surveyed it cost me just over $2k -- maybe you need to raise your rates?

    Congratulations! It takes time to properly develop a good business and clientèle. I have started and run six businesses. My current company is now in it's 30th year. I can tell you that it took real blood, sweat and tears to make it this far. You can make it happen.

    Congrats. I started my own business over a year ago and I delivered pizzas part time to bring in some cash. Not exactly what I wanted but it helped in the lean times when I was building. Good Luck

    Just keep overhead low and your head down. Try not to make yourself anyone's target. You should do ok. Keep your business small to avoid the looters.

    Great. If you're like most people, you'll go from excited to scared once a day. If you meet some of the people making a living doing similar things, you'll realize most of them aren't geniuses-- they just get jobs done on time within budget and they have a large network.

    Glad you made the decision. If I remember correctly you would have regretted not trying and wondering what if, for a long time. When I had kids and my wife stayed home I painted houses on the side to make ends meet. The first house I painted was for $600.00 it took two weeks and I bought the paint. That job led to all the others through word of mouth. Because I did a quality job the price kept going up, nobody complained they wanted value for value. I did it until I didn’t want to anymore. In the beginning the experience is the value. Paint houses to make ends meet in between jobs. Good Luck.
