I'm sure that if our Navy is fired upon, the current admin will give the order to stand down and not return fire. That's how we lost Vietnam. The left doesn't want us winning any war, but like Johnson, they'd sure like to sell some oil and helicopters.

with SSNs deployed, Hawkeye radar craft, Aegis ships (3 DDs and/or Cruisers at least)

and a reported USS Ohio class armed with 154 non-nuclear cruise missiles

3 squadrons of F/A-18s, one squadron of F-35s
support helos, 4 or 5 Hawkeyes

It is my understanding we still have troops in Syria and Iraq.
They are stirring ducks, just begging for trouble to come find them.

As for Carrier Groups, There has been an on-going concern for decades ever since France started selling Exocet missiles to whoever had hard cash.
Now with the new hypersonic missile technology the threat level is off the charts, they cannot evade or shoot down these nap-of-the-earth hypersonic cruise missiles. If the Russians and/or Chinese have shared this missile tech with Iran/Qatar/UAE/fill-in-the-blank, big lumbering boats like a carrier groups don't stand a chance.
Directly antagonizing either China or Russia almost garentees we are going to find out the hard way just how vulnerable these big targets are.

Question has no meaning in the context of the behavior of Iran which has put itself in a state of growing hostility to the US for decades since the Islamic Extremists overthrew the Shah.
