But why would they have done so then?

The 2024 election will have to be even more obviously rigged for Buydem to be appointed again.

How to avoid that problem?
1) Kill the competition - which is even worse than a rigged election
2) Indict and jail the competition - again even worse than another rigged election
3) Replace Buydem with another puppet that can close the gap and make the rigged election less obvious.
