We were at Ft Hood back in the '60's and I stumbled onto an infant in a car and it was Texas hot. His sweet little face was covered with tears and his nose was running. He was really yelling. I summoned the MP's and they swarmed over to the PX and went inside and blared out 'Who left their baby in a car!' Boy were they mad. The little Georgia Peach came running out and they got her husband's name and unit. Husband arrived and proceeded to chastise sweet little wife and I backed him into a corner. The MP's were trying hard not to laugh at me...one said rather loudly 'Her husband is First Sgt of that Infantry Company on this Armored Base! I'm glad this poor kid isn't Infantry." I gave him a glare too! Through her tears, she told me her baby had just had his shots and she feared the PX would be too cold for him. I educated her on the free of charge use of our Base's baby daycare for just such emergencies. She hadn't read the little brochure all newcomers received. I gave her my phone number and told her to call me if she needed help with the baby. N

Most incidents like this as far as I've seen are related to parental/custodial drug use.

As temperatures seem to be getting hotter across the nation, and drug use (a direct factor of welfare culture) escalates, I expect these tragic incidents to correspondingly increase.

Your concern for the infant you noted is commendable. I'm afraid most people don't want to get involved these days in child negligence/abuse cases--even though those same people were once infants too.
