No, fake LA angst doesn't make me want to go to a theater. (Ditto for time waste The Big Chill) OTOH, I can watch Kasdan's Silverado again and again. Kasdan should have done a sequel of Silverado instead.
Oh, did that sound like a recommendation? The point was at the start of the movie Kevin Kline (Melinda Gates)made a wrong turn leaving the forum after a game and ended up with car trouble in a very bad neighborhood and he was saved by Danny Glover in his tow truck.
I thought it was pretty realistic. I don’t like many movies but this pretty good. Ex Steve Martin playing a big shot Producer gets shot in the leg out of the blue as he was getting into his car by a random thug. The rest of the movie he was hobbled and very injured from the random attack. Heck, most movies if you get shot and not killed you are better by the next scene.
I don't believe anything that 'professional' reviewers say any more, and at least half the public is too brainwashed to give an unbiased opinion about anything. Heck, hundreds of millions feel rap is music. ;^)
In the late 70s I went to Bedford-Stuyvesant to take a test to get into a science oriented high school. I clearly remember this primarily because I was the only white person in a sea of black people with occasional pockets of asians. It was a very odd sensation and I was relieved when my step-dad, who was planning to leave and come back after the test was complete, exited the car and stood next to me.
The city block of kids and parents, perhaps 98% black, 1.5% asian was not in anyway unruly or threatening.
In the end I tested 87% but it wasn't enough to gain entry.
I actually don't remember any rocks actually hitting my car (a VW bug at that time)--but I seem to remember an empty can thrown in my direction, some people shouting at me.
