Ukraine is none of our business, they should have purchased and trained there own army. Then joined NATO..

We have are own problems, the left have just spent the last 22 months destroying our military and economy to more push for war.

Our citizens shouldn't be expended for Ukraine, our capital shouldn't be wasted on Ukraine and as far as I'm concerned Ukraine is the democratic party money laundering arm. Ukraine is the land of corruption.

I support helping Ukraine repel the Russian invasion, but as a non-expert in foreign policy I see two sides to US military intervention.
Side 1: US interventions resulted in the Long Peace following WWII. Before this period, wars were commonplace, but now war is isolated and infrequently.
Side 2: US spent so much money trying to bring freedom to places like Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan. It didn’t work, and it gave despots the convenient scapegoat of American imperialism to blame their failings on.
So from Side 1, I think US should support Ukraine and not let Russia be rewarded for trying to solve the supposed problem of ethnic Russians being mistreated in Ukraine. But on Side 2, I wonder if it’s like US helping the precursors to the Taliban oust the Soviets from Afghanistan.

In the long-run, I think we’re in the last gasp of nation states having so much power. The need for the nation-state has outlived its usefulness. The nation-state is clinging on by people feeling their “olive trees” are imperiled by “the Lexus”, to use the words Thomas Friedman coined. Humankind wants prosperity and freedom, so I think it will eventually choose the “Lexus”. So the long-term problem is making governments provide independent courts and mostly stay out of the way of human enterprises. Then it doesn’t matter if some piece of land is governed by a certain ethnicity, as in eastern Ukraine.

I think the decline of the nation state could happen this century, but it does not answer the question of US support for Ukraine. It seems like US has to support Ukraine and somehow, I don’t know how, make the state decrease in power.
