Electric Cars... The Batteries are the Deal Killer!

Others here know a lot more than I do about EVs (Electric Vehicles), and ICE (Internal Combustion Engines).
For the record, my bias is towards Hydrogen (Lithium Hydride, which you need a nuclear reactor for).
It burns clean, and is stored safely. Filling up could be a quick "replace the tank" like swapping a Propane tank.
In this article, it can be charged up using solar: (Bob Lazar, Hydrogen Car)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ytg23...

So, the main story points to the problem I had with EVs. I walked into the first Tesla store in Boca Raton, and I found the manager and I said "I tend to keep my cars for 10-20 years... How long will the battery last?" He replied "Probably not that long..." (ROTFLMAO, you think?). I asked "How much does it cost to replace it?"

He WOULD NOT give me an answer. He said "There is no need, it is covered under warranty". So I pressed that the warranty will run out a DECADE before I would get rid of a car with such low maintenance costs! And he argued, I cannot tell you what it would cost in the future, the prices are getting lower.

So, the attached story link shows they want $26,000 (Back in the day, I used a $30,000 number as a ballpark. Good guess).
So, I asked if "Every 5 years, I have to buy a $30k Battery", does that not add $6,000 to the cost of the car PER YEAR (after the warranty)?

So, if I keep the car for 10yrs, it's $30,000 (assuming I got 5yrs on the first, and now the car is $30k in the hole to be usable).
At 20yrs (2 of my vehicles were 20+ yrs old when I got rid of them), it's $60,000 (so we can use $3,000/yr). Which is only $250/month.

Based on that analysis, that's the premium of the battery that caused me to scratch my head. And God forbid when they tell you, we no longer make THAT battery, or after 15yrs it's now custom... Good Luck...

So, good news. The price has come down. A tad. Now for the fun part. Tesla has locked the owner out of his car.
Because the battery is dead, and he wont put a new one in. Now, would I consider buying a $140k Tesla for the $26,000 battery?
Sure, I would be BAD at math if I didn't....

But will this battery have a 5yr warranty? If not?

And what about this heat wave. I understand a bunch of Tesla Owners climbed into their cars, and they REFUSED to start. These batteries don't do well if they get hot, apparently, so they were disabled. Imagine being somewhere truly dangerous, and in trouble... And your car tells you "sorry". (Yes, blowing up and killing the passengers en route is bad... But risks need to be taken some times!)

So, I am not convinced. I like a LOT of the NUDGING that EVs are simpler, less expensive to maintain, etc. etc. etc.
But if 10% of our vehicles were EVs, our grid would FAIL overnight. That said, go full out Nuclear, and fix the grid.
Heck, get creative... Add a Trolley lane on the highway, where you could charge your car as you drive, or at least break even.

Finally, states are starting this STUPID plan to prohibit new gasoline cars, pushing EVs. Without realizing that the power grid will fail.
Also, the costs are quite high. And I am "not sold" that these batteries have less ecological impact with the rare earth minerals...

Does this Technology seem like it is being pushed BLINDLY to anyone else?

I recall Bob Lazar making a big splash (back in the 90's) describing the "Sport model" flying saucer he had seen while working at Groom Lake (Area 51).

Yes, EVERYTHING positive published by the MSM regarding EV's is utterly misleading rubbish and typical of what I expect of the MSM, lying scum that they are today.
Tesla, in particular, exists only because of government subsidies - stolen from we, the people, without our consent.

i have Deep Cycle Marine batteries at home for emergencies

i get 1/2 of the power used to charge them back

just how efficient are the batteries used in EVs?

I still don't think that battery will drive an EV through one of our Texas 'gulley washer'. It floods a lot on the Gulf Coast. And how is it in snow (blizzard)????

People love their Teslas for one reason, and one reason only. Incredible acceleration. In every other way, they are a bad purchase. If they only did 0- 60 in 12 seconds, I think no one would buy them. Well, maybe a dumb ass wealthy liberal or two that thinks they are saving the planet, with their car that runs from coal fired electric plants.

    lots of questions...
    battery efficiency
    battery life (how many cycles)
does charging before empty effect battery life?
    how easy to recycle
how do people in apartments charge them?
are you going to force apartments to install charging stations?

if i was forced to get one (by an unconstitutional and immoral mandate), i'd get solar panels on my home to recharge the damn thing
