The evil triad: Power. Money. Societal Control.
Beware of anything and everything labeled an "Emergency". i.e. Emergency Powers Act. It, by it's very definition, invokes CoG: Continuity of Government. This officially suspends the Constitution (as if the Deep State isn't doing enough of that on the sly already i.e. the "Patriot Act"). The hiring of 10,000 IRS armed thugs was the key turning point. The Buy-Done regime has, by deed, intention and appearance, recreated 1930's Germany.
Keep your powder dry and your head on a swivel.

Good article (+1), but I'm going to disagree with the primary premise. There is no "nature" to government any more than there is a "nature" to a corporation. There is only a "nature" to people in general, and because it is so mutable and volatile, even that is an ephemeral construct. Aristotle fell trap to the bias of wanting to categorize - which in and of itself is somewhat of a "natural" inclination of people. The problem is that it is inherently a false argument of the "No True Scotsman" variety. The reality is that people are on every portion of every scale of measurement yet invented.

Why do systematic restrictions - i.e. laws - fail to curb the excesses and moral failings of human beings? Because they are human beings and for no extant reason. It doesn't matter whether one wants to implement totalitarian control or anarchic permissiveness: the system isn't going to work for everyone. At best, all we can have is a system - somewhere in the middle - which works for most people.

What is the solution? The solution is that people must accept the societal contract of the society they want to live in and the laws of that society must be immutable, ie not subject to change by the people themselves by anything other than total unanimity. And if they don't like those laws, they should go find a society which matches their ideals.

This may sound harsh, but it is reality because of the very nature of men to 1) have the capability to choose their own path in life and 2) to have different paths to choose. Note that neither one of these can or ought to be controlled by government fiat, either.

Aristotle was too specific, it is not just government. Any grouping engaged in commerce works to enlarge itself.
The difference is that in private groups the money/resources needed to grow reaches a constraining barrier, not always fast but sooner or later the money is stopped. In government the cutting of money to wasters does occur, but not as a rule.

My small city just had a robbery by three armed people. They scared silly three teenage girls and these thieves are 'homeless people' living under the bridge on the bayou. Grateful for a place to stay I guess. We have 5 food pantries in this tiny town that will give food to anyone.

It's because we have too many stupid people in serious positions. I asked my BFF if she would step out on the streets of San Antonio if they 'Disbanded and Defunded the Police'. She said, 'Never'!'. We have a nut named Beto O'Rourke who wants to be Gov of Texas and that's his best suggestion!

Scary as hell because he has a much-too-high chance of winning. My county (Dallas county) is FAR too blue for my comfort, and they are flooding 'em in as fast as they can.

Get rid of the cops. I don't care. If I were a criminal, I would not screw with me. Go after some of the local tree-hugging, bleeding-heart wussies, and take all their lunch money. A couple of years of this, and that sediment will not come back for generations.

I, for one, live too close to Houston and I wouldn't go there if that happened. It's bad enough with all the police they've got. Your life expectancies would blow off the scale!
