The USPS is unionized under the AFL-CIO. They endorsed JoeBuyMe for President. It is not sound to have a democratic voting segment of the population to be handling mail-in ballots. Mail-in voting is inherently open to fraud and tampering. Once the ballot leaves the voter's hand, there are many steps of sorting, carrying, distributing, etc...it's a long chain prone to biased tampering. One could simply shred and burn mail in ballots based on zip code to win an election.
