In Defense of the Unpatriotic
This is an excerpt, the full article can be accessed by the link above.
Golden geese can fly, and nothing scares Washington more. One reason people go into government is because they have little to offer in the private sector. Having to sell one’s self and one’s product or service, to pursue ambition and self-interest, in short, to compete, is distasteful and they abhor the idea of the government having to compete for talent, capital, and businesses (the c-words they like are command and control). Making conditions more amenable to the geese is not to be considered, or considered only as an absolute last resort, if nothing else keeps them in their coop. For now, lambast those who fly. If patriotism is the last refuge of scoundrels, calling those fleeing a rapacious government “unpatriotic” is the next to last.
