"The exact language of the bill states: “This section may not be construed to authorize any form of investigation or penalty for a person . . . experiencing a . . . perinatal death related to a failure to act.” (Emphasis added). In other words, a baby born alive and well could be abandoned and left to starve or freeze to death, and nothing could be done to punish those who participated in that cruel death. The bill also includes a section that would allow “a person [to] bring a cause of action for damages if the person was subject to unlawful arrest or criminal investigation for a violation of this section as a result of . . . experiencing a . . . perinatal death.”"

The ARI position is that abortion is morally acceptable up to the exact moment of birth. Is it such a stretch to go from that to the concepts of this legislation? If a woman [forget the nonsense of "birthing individual"] can go through an entire pregnancy and enter the delivery room and still have the morally-allowed choice of saying, nope, not feeling it, abort the fetus -- then the Maryland legislation is a distinction without a difference.

And this is my bottom-line break with ARI, and with Objectivism to the extent that the two are co-extensive, because this is murder.

I recall that Ayn Rand was passionately in favor of abortion. However she did say, (in regard to a political issue--and this is a memory quote)"One may argue about the later stages of a pregnancy, but the essential issue concerns only the first three months."
I think, myself, that the fetus becomes a human being when it starts to have brain waves (which I believe begins shortly before it is three months along.)
I believe that even she would say that anything in that line after birth is, of course, murder.
