First, the D's could run Bernie (of weekend at Bernie's) and win simply because no one in government anywhere care that they rigged the system.
Second, the Rs would find a way to lose simply to keep the siphon hose going. After all, they did nothing when they had ample evidence of foreign meddling in circumventing the american citizens will in the last election.

Putting any serious concern into politics these days is akin taking seriously a Dr. Seuss book and seeking it as a guiding force in your life. These days, and likely for quite some time, this has been a stage show to setup to keep the masses hopeful so their next charlatan can fleece us...trump included (I suspect that his job was to setup a productive environment for the next, and more openly ravenous, pillaging).
