The problem with conspiracy theories like this one is that you have to believe the usual ineptitude of government officials was absent. That such an undertaking suddenly transformed them into devious but brilliant and flawless executers of a plan with total disregard for innocent fellow Americans. You also have to believe that everyone involved kept their mouths shut even though the number required for such an operation would be significant.

The evidence presented by the engineers and authorities is compelling regarding the manner in which the buildings collapsed, (even though other experts differ) but it says nothing about the identity of the perpetrators.

If we accept the evidence offered regarding the means of destruction, but recognize the lack of evidence of who is responsible, then we must ask why the government version? Why would they put out their report/ conclusions blaming the entire thing on the planes? Who are they covering up for? Could they just be inept, or could they be covering up something for our own good? Perhaps they aren’t co-conspirators but trying to shield the people from the truth of their vulnerability, and avoid panic, or perhaps there is a national security issue involved.

Conclusion:
The evidence is not available to me for examination. There are conflicting conclusions by experts on both sides. It is only natural for people to be skeptical. The evidence allows for a conspiracy to be plausible, but it seems improbable.

No matter what the truth is, we have many reasons to distrust government. We don’t need to resort to extraordinary conspiracy theories.

Truthers:
I have no objection to continued investigation; however there are several critical facts that make no sense in the conspiracy theory.

I watched the video posted by Original Genetics on the old site and came away with a few questions/ comments.

What motive could the government have for the cover up?
You have to believe our government was involved in killing three thousand Americans for a purpose which could have been achieved at far less loss of life, or that the hijackers/ terrorists had planted the demolition bombs and were sending the planes for a simple diversion, since the bombs alone were capable of the destruction.
What of the footage of Osama bin Laden taking credit?
If demolition was the cause of the building collapses, then what was the point of the planes?
We all saw the planes crash into the buildings, were they diversion?
If Americans were involved wouldn’t the high jacking of the planes and crashing into the buildings be sufficient impetus for the alleged conspirator’s purpose even if the entire buildings had not been brought down?
Why would the government jeopardize the airline industry, damage financial markets, destroy valuable property, kill many Americans, send the world into panic and chaos, when a much smaller offense or a even a thwarted attempt would suffice for a pretense to go to war? Why would the government blame Bin Laden instead of Saddam Hussein, if it was pretense for starting the Iraq war?

Oh please, not a "Truther" too.

Hi folks. I'm a new member here to Galt's Gulch Online. Not new to Objectivism however. Doing some random searches for topics that interest me and I found this post.

Thanks Wesley Mooch for making this post. Can't say I'm a big fan of your username, however. :-/

Anyway, in addition to being an objectivist I'm an aerospace engineer with two degrees in that. I've been involved in two aircraft investigations unrelated to those on 9/11. The government's conspiracy theory is a mile wide but only one inch thick. Just one example: the flight data from the Flight 77, the one that hit the Pentagon, created more questions than answers. Aside from the incredible flight path that no amateur pilot could have performed, there was a data marker for cockpit door opening. Would you believe--it never changed during the entire flight? The data from the FAA shows it registered as CLOSED the entire time. Interesting, eh? I'm not asking you to take my word for it, but I've done the real engineering homework. Do a little digging yourself and you'll soon have more questions and inconsistencies than you know what to do with.
