No News is Good News

My wife likes to have the news on. I just about snapped today because it's only a collection of a handful of stories over and over and over.
1- Marjorie Taylor Greene needs to be fired from Congress.
2-Black people are mistreated.
3-Everybody needs to wear their masks.
4-Some variation of how important the COVID vaccines are.

That's it. There is no other story on our feed on the tv in California. I actually agree with #2, mistreatment still happens at the hands of bad people. But it's reported as though the government isn't part of the problem, only part of the solution. Total B.S. These four topics make up 100% of our news. 100%! It's just round and round and round and round for hours and hours - even the same little clips of footage over and over and over. It is surreal...like something out of a bad movie, or something out of The Truman Show. It's the "2-Minute Hate" only it's for 2 hours. I keep turning it off. She likes the constant drone of background tv noise. You probably know somebody like that. But, I actually listen. That's my curse.

Something about Ground Hog Day comes to mind. I hit the mute button and read the captions to see if it anything that interests me. Tucker's show will have about the only commentary that is usually though proving and worth my time. The rest is just drivel. .

I kind of enjoy The Next Revolution - Steve Hilton, he tends to cover more detail than just rhetoric., and And Tucker is more fun to watch. Most of the rest of FOX anymore is moving into step with their new management, they can't show anything that backs up or puts down the story.

I junked my TV a decade ago and am glad I did. The major media have replaced news with vicious lies, and Hollywood makes nothing I want.

In their place I follow about 50 blogs and podcasts. Of course, none of them can be trusted 100% as unbiased -- but neither can the major media. Its consumers simply need to unlearn the bad habit of assuming that there's a "mainstream" and that the major media can be trusted to tell it to you.

So screw the concept of reputable, mainstream news sources.

That's why I don't turn on my TV. Suggestion: there are so many other things you and/or she can listen to that isn't a "drone" or "background noise." I suspect you know this already, but I have learned to listen to my favorite podcasts WHEN I am in the mood to listen to something, which isn't all that often: Verdict/Ted Cruz and Michael Knowles, The Trey Gowdy Podcast, and one of the BEST: The Tom Woods show. These are all easy to find, depending on what devices you use. I suspect there are many more as well.

When I divorced my first husband, the first thing I did when he left the house: I turned off the TV. For the first time in the 21 years we were married, there was golden, heavenly, delicious SILENCE. That was 29 years ago....haven't missed TV yet, though we did cave and get a Fire TV device so we can watch shows of OUR choice, at the time of our choosing. Hubby has the volume fed directly to his hearing aids, so if I don't want to listen, which is most of the time, I never hear it.

I can tell you, though: if I had to listen to that over and over all day, I'd be in prison for murder, no doubt about it. So, I strongly sympathize.

I pay so little attention that I don't know why they want to fire Marjorie Taylor Greene. Wouldn't know she was in Congress if it hadn't been mentioned here.

They want her gone because of things she very publicly said BEFORE she was elected, that everyone knew she said, and she got elected, but they don't like what she said.

She is over the target and those are the ones that get the most flak. Michelle Bachman got similar treatment for pointing out Hussein’s insertion of Muslim brotherhood into govt agencies and the overall population.

There is always this according to Joe Namath, "Hi Folk, if you're on Medicare this is important". What we find most important here is the remote channel selector and the Mute button. With a truly illegitimate fool in the WH there is no good reason to watch any news past what might be your local happenings. If there actually was honest reporting we would know that the MSM network news is stations are losing ratings really bad and old rerun shows are gaining.

I have the same issue. I'm a caregiver for my 93-year-old father. He likes to watch the news. Often, after the fifth iteration of the same series of propaganda pieces (which I can hear from the back bedroom where I have t remote office set up) I'll be at my wits end because I can't focus on work; part of my mind always has to listen in case he calls for me, which means I'm listening to everything.

Wit's end. I'll go out into the front room to change the channel to something wholesome like Little House on the Prairie and find that he's napping in his chair. Bless his heart. I probably could have (and should have) changed the channel an hour ago. That much insidious programming isn't good for someone with pre-existing memory issues. Guess what he remembers?

The message is marketed very cleverly, the catch phrases ("in the arm" is the latest one I'm tracking), and the heartstrings-tugging pleas of actors in commercials is really frustrating for anyone paying attention.

And it's on every. single. station.

I understand it's good to Know Thy Enemy, especially the lies they tell and the strategies they use to manipulate. But I need a vacation from the propaganda. Anyone have a cabin in the woods and some dishes that need washing?

It's called Programming last I heard.
Here is one Fortune you have in this midst. You'd not be upset if you did not care.
Now it is a choice of how far outside your previous comfort zone you'll allow your actions to manifest.
What choices, based upon present, and potential relationships, can bring the most equity and happiness?

I don't watch the cable network "news" anymore. It's more opinion (and idiotic opinion at that) than it is actual factual news. I think CNN started this. Remember when CNN came out? 24 hours of news! The problem became that there really isn't much news happening 24x7 and opinions became "news." I wish more people would ditch 24x7 news channels.

One of the best decisions my wife and I made years ago was not to get cable and not to pay attention to the major news networks. It has made our own lives and the lives of our children so much better.

I watch news for the weather in the morning and then shut it off.

If I don't shut it off fast enough I find myself shouting at the damn thing. It is not good for my blood pressure.
