One Form of Going Galt

If I didn't have kids to raise in retirement I'd do this. I still may do it on a limited basis. But, I'm an engineer and can work remotely anyway. Maybe answer engineering questions from my RV in Homer, AK just before heading over to the salmon pond with my rod and reel...

Have you gone on to the Indeed website and looked up engineering positions by state that might meet your desires?
I use this to get an insight on what has been happening in the manufacturing industry for over 5 years now.

Hmm...you still have to have a home base, don't you, for your vehicle registration? (same would go for a large boat...have to have a home port).
I guess you can get away without a bank but I don't think you can get away without tax accountability to somewhere at some level.

"In today’s society it just seems like you’re always busy, you’re always working."
The idea of the New American Dream is to keep you enslaved to:
    (1) the banks holding the mortgage on the house (that is bigger than you need and built to fall apart in one generation, a shorter time than the length of the mortgage,)
(2)the local government demanding high taxes on the inflated "value" of that house in exchange for schools that brainwash students to be dependent socialists, and
(3)the federal government stealing your labor and wasting it on bridges to nowhere and endless wars against imagined enemies.

If anyone but Trump wins the 2020 presidency, I will likely be joining these nomads in a floating version of the RV.
I took a year to travel around Australia in an RV in 2008-9. I had many Australians express how they admired end envied my freedom.

I seriously think of doing this frequently. I have a business I can work from anywhere with internet and/or cell phone. I know other professionals in the same situation. It doesn't have to be a no or low pay job. Makes it easier to be a snowbird, or just see new things, get new ideas, have new experiences. A big enough RV to hold my guitars, amps, has a washer/dryer and can pull my Jeep. Yep. I could easily do that.

It's conceivable that owning real estate in the US may not be such a great deal. It's getting that way in California, certainly.

Well, since you don't really own it anyway, just a long term lease with the option to sell, then get killed with capital gains, real estate might not be the best way to go. Think you own the real estate? Don't pay your property taxes and see who really owns it.

          No doubt.

Soon, they'll dismantle Prop 13 here in California (starting with Prop 15 this fall, which targets "commercial property"...which will likely include rental property) and the shit storm will continue. If you own property as a private party you are viewed as part of the problem...comrade....
