Freedom and Liberty--Further Exposition

I had to go home and look up those two words in my dictionary. Liberty is defined firstly as: freedom from slavery or captivity. "Freedom" as 1. a being free, specif. a) independence, d) a being able to act, use freely e) ease of movement.
It appears that liberty seems to be something somebody has to give you, freedom is something inherent in yourself.
Which brings me to "granting" rights vs. "guaranteeing" rights. BO was (and still can't) perceive that very very important difference. He is not an American in spirit.

I think of "freedom" as ability to act independently, and liberty as freedom but without freedom to do things that take away others' liberty.

And by social responsibility, I don't mean gov't coercion of social justice, or even duty or obligation.
The one and only time I went to a Mensa meeting (mid 60's) they were discussing whether the upper 3% of the population intellectually had an obligation to the lower 97%!!. Well, yeah, I thought, not to demean or denigrate them! And never went back!
