'Pack party' for soldiers ships 15,000th Care Package
Here are some facts published in last months Post News Letter:
They have sent over 14,705 - 5 pound packages to our front-line troops in Iraq and Afghanistan in the past 9 years. This August started year number 10. They average 136 boxes a month @ $50 each for 5 pound packages – Cost $6,800 a month, and average 1,630 boxes a year - Cost $81,600. Since the start in 2004, 14,700 packages have been shipped to troops in harm’s way -Cost $735,000.
These facts are backed by their Official MOTTO -"We honor our dead by serving the living." There is no direct VFW money involved in this program. John Kenny came up with the idea and has led the program form the start. His team raises all the money, including the money for postage, and all the merchandise through generous donations of the public, Fred Meyer stores and the Seattle Mariners. You can find the team packaging ever Thursday evening at the Post. The Troop Support Team says, "We are very proud to serve these young men and women who dedicate their lives to the service of our Country."
