Study reveals gene expression changes with meditation

With evidence growing that meditation can have beneficial health effects, scientists have sought to understand how these practices physically affect the body. A new study reports the first evidence of specific molecular changes in the body following a period of mindfulness meditation.

- 1Posted by $ sjatkins 10 years, 8 months agoGene expression and much else of the body's state changes with emotional state, especially habitual state, to some degree. Meditation can teach one technigues for noting one's state and its sources and modifying some of the feedback loop. It also affects serotonin and other brain chemistry to some degree and not always in a positive manner. But it does not make "molecular changes" directly.Mark as read | Best of... | Permalink|

- 1Posted by freedomforall 10 years, 8 months agoThe analgesic drug market in the US alone amounts to over $2.3 billion annually for pharmaceutical companies like Proctor & Gamble, and that’s just for over-the-counter drugs. Could simply practicing meditation eliminate the need for expensive and side effect-causing medication (including some that can degrade the body’s natural immune response)?Mark as read | Best of... | Permalink|
